Eardeley Survey: 40. Levinia : wife of Elijah PURDY : died 8 August 1811 : aged 76 years, and 11 months : Note – she was born 28 August 1735 : a daughter of David HAIGHT and Millicent ( LANE ). {Purdy, Levina, wife of Elijah Purdy, Esq., d. 8 Aug. 1811, ae. 76-11.}
**Thanks to the White Plains Historical Society for confirming marriage to Elijah. Reference: "Jonathan Purdy, His Ancestors and Descendants..." by Clayton Purdy.**
"On Thursday the 18th [sic] instant at Whiteplains, Westchester County, after a short illness of 4 days, Mrs. Levinia Purdy, the consort of Elijah Purdy, Esq. aged 76 years. She was a __ate wife, a kind and tender mother, a pleasing companion and a sincere friend to the poor. She was followed to the place of internment on Friday evening by 10 of her own children (some of whom were distant from each other at the time of her death 100 miles), 7 children by marriage, 29 of 53 of her grandchildren, 3 of 14 of her great grandchildren, beside a large and numerous circle of acquaintances. Her christian conduct throughout life, together with the patience, resignation and humility and hope she was enabled to exercise in the nearer views of death affords strong consolation to her surviving friends -- for "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord."
No more here converse shall delight the heart,
No more her smiles spread serene pleasures round;
No more her liberal bosom shall impart
The balm of pity to affliction's wound."
