Born in Lincoln, IL on February 2, 1923, living in Jacksonville, IL during his childhood. Coming to Joliet in 1946 after serving in the U.S. Army during WW II.
Survived by his wife Eunice Botkin, two daughters Karen (Glenn) Erickson of Minooka and Debra Carhart of Minooka. Two grandsons David Michael (Cindy) Erickson of Overland Park, KS and Robert James Carhart of Minooka. Three stepchildren, eight step grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. A brother John L.(Melba) Botkin, and a sister Marian (Harry) Dickinson. Loving niece Jean Botkin and good friend Bruce Mandel all of California. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Gertrude Botkin and his first wife Irene in 1980.
Jim was employed at Blockson Chemical Casanova's Standard Station, managed Botkin's Marathon and retired from Salem Village in 1985. Past member of Ingalls Park United Methodist Church. Member of Stone City V.F.W. Post #2199 and Pilgrim Congregational Church in Hemet. He was an avid square dancer for many years in both the Joliet area and Walnut, CA.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., Friday, Nov. 9 at 11:30 A.M. Rev. Richard Darr, pastor of Minooka United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. Memorials to the Diabetes Association will be appreciated. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:30 A.M. until time of services.
