Remains of County Soldier Returns to City Tomorrow

The body of another Washington County soldier killed in World War II, Staff Sgt. William J. Shifflett, 29, of Indian Springs, who was killed in action in Belgium in December, 1944, will be returned to Hagerstown tomorrow.

He is the son of Emory and the late Nettie Sullivan Shifflett.

Upon arrival here tomorrow, the body will be taken to Rest Haven Chapel.

The deceased is survived by his father and the following brothers and sisters: Clerus, Worcester, Mass.; John of Clear Spring; Newman of Hagerstown Rt. 4; Roy of Washington D.C.; and Gordon and Cecil of Hancock; Mrs. Virginia Murray, Bethesda, Md. And Mrs. Lois Murray, of Hagerstown.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven Chapel. Major J. D. Hockman officiating, with graveside services in Memorial Gardens in charge of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
