Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 8th Pennsylvania Reserves. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "gallant conduct at the battles of the Wilderness and Spotsylvania Counrt House, Va.".
