Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Central Community Church, Mattoon. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2010 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Burial will be in French Cemetery, Allenville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Central Community Church Awana Club, 200 Lafayette Avenue East, Mattoon IL 61938 or to the American Cancer Society.
Joe was born July 26, 1937 in Arthur, the son of Cleo and Virginia (Hendrickson) Fowler. He married Donna Rae Colbert on September 20, 1986 in Charleston. He was a member of the Central Community Church and on the Church Board and taught Bible study. He was a member of the Lions Club of Mattoon and Charleston. He was a trustee of East Nelson Township in Moultrie County and worked in the Awana Club for many years. Joe loved to camp with his wife and many friends. Most of all he loved farming with Johnny Grooms.
He is survived by his wife Donna; sons, Robert Fowler of Greer, SC, James (Sandy) Fowler of Normal, and Wayne (Lora) Foster of Neoga; daughters, Brenda (Jeff) Fred of Effingham, Danielle (Eric) Swango of Charleston, Cynthia (Loyd) Ewing of Powell, TN, Teresa Fowler of TX, Lisa Fowler of Fithian and Sheila (Robert) Spencer of Trilla; seventeen grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by one brother Donald.
