Obituary for Sarah McInnis Smith published in the Fayetteville Observer, 4 Feb 1904
Death of Mrs. Smith
Mrs. Sarah Smith died Sunday night in the Marsh-Highsmith hospital, the immediate cause being a paralytic stroke. She had been in the hospital since the 23rd of November, and had so far recovered her health as to be able to walk in the corridors and even take a ride, but the paralysis proved too much for her enfeebled condition.
Mrs. Smith was 66 years of age, having been born Nov. 8th, 1837 and was the widow of the late Daniel L. Smith, an esteemed citizen of this county. Her maiden name was McInnis, her parents coming here from Scotland. She was a devout member of the Presbyterian church, and was a woman of fine character, devoted to her home and her friends. She leaves two children: Mr. W. E. Smith, of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. J. H. Culbreth, of this city.
