Horace Neill Brooks, 74, former editor and publisher of the Calico Rock Progress, died Saturday, at his residence in Calico Rock.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 pm at the Calico Rock Church of Christ with Bro. Robert Helston of Searcy officiating. Interment was in the Rose Lawn Cemetery at Calico Rock under the direction of McCallum Funeral Home.
Mr. Brooks, a lifelong resident of Arkansas, was born at Mammoth Spring March 30, 1890. His parents were William Brooks and Mary Lavina Jeffery Brooks. On April 18, 1923, he was married to the former Audrey Garner.
He was a weekly newspaper publisher for 45 years, retiring about seven years ago. In addition to the Calico Rock Progress, he had also edited the Cleburne County Times at Heber Springs for about three years.
Mr. Brooks was a member of the Church of Christ and veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Calico Rock Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, and the VFW post.
Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Audrey Brooks of Calico Rock; a son, Reese M. Brooks of Tulsa, Okla.; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers were Newt Caple, Everett Smith, Jim Clinkingbeard, Ulysses Hudson, Austin Harris and John Ghelfi.
