Carroll Fredrick Johnston, 92, of Lincoln, formerly of Central City, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at home.

Carroll was born on Dec. 20, 1917, in Merrick County to Charles and Bertha (Brandner) Johnston.

Carroll was united in marriage to E. Nadine Blodgett on April 24, 1949, at Presbyterian Church in Pawnee City.

Survivors are: his wife, Nadine of Lincoln; son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Brenda Johnston of Columbus; daughter, Alicia Opoku of Lincoln; brothers and sister-in-law, Rodney Johnston and Leslie and Phyllis Johnston, all of Canon City, Colo.; grandchildren, Stacey Lovewell, Shad Rehnberg, and Malcolm Opoku; great-grandchildren, Beth Ahrens, Aliasha Braught, Lacey Keeler and Courtney Lovewell; great-great-grandchildren, Kyler Ahrens and Laylah Olk and a host of friends and relatives.

He attended District 23 Country School in Merrick County and graduated from Central City High School in 1935. He earned his Certificate of Agriculture from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Carroll and Nadine made their home on their farm northwest of Central City and farmed until moving into Central City in 1987. They moved to Lincoln in 2004.

Carroll was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church near Central City and was active in the United Methodist Men.

He was on the Mead Township Board, was a member of Farm Bureau, and was a Boy Scout leader.

Carroll enjoyed woodworking and carving, yard work and being outdoors.

Carroll was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, Milton; and brother, Orville.
