L. Harry Mixson Succumbs at 74
L. Harry Mixson, founder of the South Carolina Seedsmen Association, and former president of William H. Mixson Seed Co., died yesterday morning at his residence at 4 Gate Way Walk. His age was 74. Funeral services will take place tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Connelley's Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. J. Frank Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Warren Almond, William Runyon, Thomas Price, Henry Strobel, Frank Boinneau, Samuel McConnell, Stephen Thomas, and James Melchers, all members of Alpha Charter of Pi Kappa Phi of the College of Charleston.
Born August 19, 1887, Mr. Mixson was a son of William Hampton Mixson and Mrs. Hannah Marie Quirollo Mixson. Past president of the Southern Seedsmen Association, he was the retired former president of the William H. Mixson Seed Company. A member of the College of Charleston Class of 1907, Mr. Mixson was cofounder and member of Pi Kappa Phi social fraternity. He was a member of Strict Observance Masonic Lodge No. 73 A.F.M., the St. Andrew's Society and the First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Elizabeth H. McCarthy Mixson; two sons, Lawrence Harry Mixson, Jr. of Charleston, and Col. Marion Clarke Mixson stationed at Topeka, Kan.; a brother, W. Hampton Mixson of Charleston, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
