Marion Schwemm Andersen, 98, of Ingleside, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010.
She was born Oct. 26, 1911, in Woodstock, to
Albert Ebel and Jennie (Larsdotter) Olsson
She began her teaching career, which spanned 43 years, in a one room school in Woodstock and ended at North Barrington School after 27 years teaching first grade there. She received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from DeKalb University.
She was a longtime member of the Lake County Cooperative Extension and was honored as volunteer of the year in 1999. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Lake and also its oldest member.
She was an avid bowler and traveled the world extensively.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean Schwemm Johnson (Gil); three grandchildren, Laura (Joe) Meyers, Brett Johnson and Brian (Darcy) Johnson; her great-grandchildren, Zachary Meyers and Matt Penington; six stepchildren; many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Eunice Andreas; her brother, Albert (Elwanda) Ebel; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, LeRoy Schwemm, in 1939; and her second husband, Andrew Andersen, in 1980.
The visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service at noon Saturday, Oct. 2, at K.K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Road, Fox Lake. The Rev. W. Paul Weeg will officiate. Interment will follow in Algonquin Cemetery, Algonquin.
In lieu of flowers, gifts to Johnsburg Education Partnership Foundation, Scholarship Fund, Attn: Dan Johnson, 2222 W. Church, Johnsburg, IL 60051.
