ONEIDA — Clyde R. Burton, 79, Lenox Avenue, died Sunday morning, Sept. 26, 2010, at his residence following a lengthy illness, with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Canastota on Nov. 16, 1930, the son of Robert A. and Grace Harlness Burton. A lifelong resident of the area, he was educated in the Canastota schools. He married Linda VanSickle in Oneida on March 27, 1986.
Prior to his retirement, Clyde was the warehouse manager for Oneida Distributors. He enjoyed fishing, wrestling and sitting on his front porch with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; seven sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert Burton, Jack Burton and Charles Burton and his fiancé, Sarah Bergman, all of Oneida, Clyde and Cinda Burton, Raymond Burton, William Burton, and Jeff Shlotzhauer, all of South Carolina; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Jeannie Burton of South Carolina, Tracy and George Johnson of Durhamville, Mary and Tim Moore of Chittenango and Jacqueline Burton and her fiancé, Peter Wesolowski of Oneida; three stepdaughters, Lori and her husband, Roy Houle of West Virginia, Monica Gilbert of Oneida, and Diane Shlotzhauer of Holland Patent; one stepson, Ray Shlotzhauer of Oneida; one sister, Virginia Vineall of Verona, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, William Burton.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, 260 Main St., Oneida with the Rev. Mick Keville officiating. Interment will be made in Oneida Valley Cemetery.
