David R.L. Cornwell, 77, of 5100 Highbridge Road, Fayetteville, died Monday at University Hospital.

Mr. Cornwell was born in Paris, Ill., and lived in the Syracuse area for the past two years. He received a master's degree from Bradley University in Illinois and was a certified professional engineer. He was a research engineer for Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1977.

Mr. Cornwell was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Surviving are his wife, Myrneth P.; two sons, Jefford R. of Manlius and Phillip D. of Peoria, Ill.; a sister, Betty Schubert of Montgomery, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel, 3690 Erie Blvd. E.

Contributions may be made to the Syracuse Association for the Blind, 620 S. Salina St.
