Former Resident Succumbs At Gary
Carl Herschell Talbert, 48, residing at 319 Jackson street, Gary, died at the Methodist hospital in Gary Monday afternoon following an illness of a few days.
Mrs. Talbert was a former Elwood resident, moving to Gary with his family six year ago.
He was employed at the Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corporation. He was a member of the Holy Angels Church in Gary.
Survivors are the wife, Ruth, his mother, Mrs. Melvin Jones, of Lucerne, four daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Altherr of Anderson; Mrs. Thomas Spurr, of Gary; Carolyn and Barbara at home and one son, Carl at home, two brothers, Gifford and Cecil Talbert, both of Logansport; his foster father, Albert Michel, of Elwood and a foster sister, Mrs. Charles Barnes, of Elwood.
Funeral services will be held from the Holy Angels Church in Gary Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock with Rev. Father John Sullivan in charge. The body will be shipped to Elwood, arriving on the 4:11 Pennsylvania train Wednesday evening, and will be taken to the Copher and Fesler funeral home.
Brief funeral rites will be conducted from there Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Father Theodore Hammes, pastor of the St. Joseph's church in charge. Burial will follow in the Catholic cemetery.
