Lesley J. Gibson was born in Manassa, Colorado, son of Elmer Paul Gibson and Elva Jane Johnson Gibson on August 31, 1932. He passed away Saturday, September 25, 2010. He was 78.
Les grew up in Manassa, Colo., alongside his nine siblings and extended family, namely his grandmother, Eliza Jane Johnson, who he was very close to.
At the age of 17 he enlisted in the armed services. He served in the Korean War, where he was a POW and was able to escape. After his military service he went to Silverton, Colo., to mine with his brothers and uncles. In 1956, Les and his older brother, Leo Moore, were in the 1956 movie, "Maverick Queen," starring Barbara Stanwyck, which was filmed in Durango, Colo. Later, he went to Moab, Utah, where he was a stunt double for Burt Reynolds in the 1968 movie, "Fade In." Also, he was in the 1968 movie, "Blue," starring Ricardo Montalban.
On July 26, 1970, he was married to Gayle in Elko, Nev. He was an active member of the LDS Church. He served in various positions and at the time of his death he was the Sunday school president in the 41st Ward. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple.
He drove trucks for Atlas Van Lines, Oregon Construction and then would go on to be dedicated employee of Bannock Paving, JB Parsons and Staker Parson's for 36 years. Les enjoyed the rodeo in his younger years, stock car racing and for many years he cutter raced with Price Farms. He was also a member of the DNCFR rodeo committee for 24 years.
He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Gayle; sons, Thomas (Corinne) Reed and their children, Jeremy, Jennifer and Joelle of Omaha, Neb., Monti (Heidi) Pittman and their children, Michael (Crystal), Leslie Shay, Monica Rylee of Meridian, Idaho; daughters, Saara Ullery of Salt Lake City, Utah, and her children, Heath Burr of New York City, N.Y., and Richelle Whitehead of Pocatello, Idaho, Lona (Michael) Titlow and their daughters, Tiffanie, Brittnee and Holly of Pocatello, Idaho; brothers, Leland (Cecil) Gibson of Anaheim, Calif., Ronald (Jeanette) Gibson of Plainville, Ga., Bruce (Ann) Gibson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Marilyn Fogarty, of Kansas City, Kan.; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
