Son of Thomas O'Barr (born in 1785 in Surrey Co., NC d. 1870 Jefferson Co., Al) and Sarah Sally Unknown (b. 1786 Ga. d. Apr 1860 Jefferson Co., Al.) he married Martha A. E. Thompson in Mar 1846 in Moody Crossroads, Al.
David Duncan O'Barr had 7 children including Clayton Thompson O'Barr who accompanied his father in the Battle of Nashville against Union forces in the War between The States. David developed pneumonia and was carried by his son back to Cahaba Valley, Alabama. Clayton was wounded in the cheek; since neither enlisted formally they were not deserters nor traitors.
