Born 1831, son of Asa & Elizabeth Breedlove Bishop. Died in Jan., 1895. Married Cynthia Dupree. Elected Jr. 2nd Lieutenant of Company C, 2nd Regiment, 1st Brigade, Georgia State Troops October 12, 1861. Elected 1st Lieutenant. Mustered out of service in April, 1862. Elected Captain of Company I, 57th Regiment Georgia Infantry May 3, 1862. Captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi July 4, 1863. Exchanged September 1863. Pension records show he surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina April 26, 1865. RCS 5-1002, Wilkinson Collections, p. 127,245, 1902 Voter's List (Bailey Dist.).

Dublin, Ga., 01-19-1902- Capt. George W. Bishop, who died yesterday at his home in Bailey district, this county, was buried today at the Dupree cemetery in Wilkinson county. Capt. Bishop was one of the most prominent farmers in Laurens county. He was a gallant ex-Confederate soldier, commanding a company during the war between the states. Capt. Bishop was about 80 years of age, and during the past few months had been in very feeble health.
