Melvin E. Henry, Sr., 97, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, May 28, 2012, at home under the care of Hospice. He was born in Morgan County on November 18, 1914. He was the son of the late Peter and Hattie Henry.

He was retired from Cacapon State Park where he did all the stone work restoring the old chimney that is the logo for the golf course, as well as all the steps, culverts and gate posts. He also did ground maintenance of the course.

He had many jobs prior to this, including construction, canning factories, carpenter and the owner of a gasoline station, and in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Michael Henry and daughter, Charlene Bohrer and three brothers, Lester, Reed and Roscoe Henry and three sisters, Dorothy Goglas, Mary Braithwaite and Neva Tomlinson.

He is survived by four daughters, Virginia Sporer (Malcom) of Smithfield, Va., Frances Clark (Gary) of Port St. John, Fla., Judy Lerner (Ray) of Dale City, Va. and Barbara Clark (Donald) of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two sons, Richard Henry (Martha) of Port St. John, Fla. and Melvin Henry, Jr. (Sarah) of Huntsville, Ala; two brothers, Fred and Irvin Henry of Berkeley Springs; one sister, Amy Barnes, of Winchester, Va.

He also has 11 grandchildren, Eddie Bohrer, Cid Causey, Daria Murphy, Gary Clark, Jr., Rocky Sporer, Mike Clark, Jody Mason, Jennifer Casher, Monty Lerner, Elizabeth White and Travis Clark; 13 great-grandchildren, Airan Vernon, Kasey Ellis, Theresa Marmet, Mike and Josh Sporer, Michelle Malmguist, Sabrina and Jessica Mason, Heather and Madelyn Clark, Rachel and Blake Lerner and Dylan Clark; seven great-great-grandchildren, Omar, Johnithan and Alex Dupree, Matix Clark, Jeremiah Sporer, Aiden Vernon and Gracen Marmet.

Family received friends at the Funeral Home on Thursday, May 31, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Services were held at the Funeral Home on Friday, June 1, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Waidande officiating.

Interment was at the Bethel Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

Full Military Honors by the Tri-State Honor Guard.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, Inc., 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.
