TERRIBLE TRAGEDY.

Yesterday afternoon Wm.Pope shot his wife, at the home of her father, Charles Varble, near Woodville, inflicting what will probably prove a fatal wound. He then shot and killed himself. Pope married Miss Varble about 7 years ago, she being the mother of a 5 year old child by him at the time of their marriage. About two years ago, they parted, he going to Kansas and she returning to her father's. He returned about two months ago and worked near Woodville. Last Saturday she filed a petition for a divorce. Monday he went to Carrollton for the same purpose, but learning what his wife had done he bought a pistol, and yesterday shot her through the head and then killed himself. This morning at 9 o'clock she was still alive, though the chances of her recovery are slight. Coroner Thompson left for the scene of the tragedy at 4 o'clock but has not returned at this writing.
