--Son of Elias P. Blankenship & wife Matilda Crenshaw.
--Confederate Veteran; He enlisted on 1 May 1862 in Company H, 11th NC Infantry. He was promoted to Corporal and later to Sgt. He was captured in October 1864 and held POW at Point Lookout, MD. He was paroled in May 1865.
--Occupation: Farmer in the Steele Creek area of Mecklenburg County in 1870. He was a farmer in Fort Mill in 1900, 1910, and 1920.
--He married #1 Delia Brittain about 1859; they had 10 children: Julie Catherine, Annie, Edra, James Moulton, Vader B., Elias Marcellus, Janet, Whitfield, Harriet, and Myrtle Blankenship.
--He married #2 Annette Swann on Jan. 5, 1884 in Mecklenburg County they had; 3 children: Infant daughter, May Swann, and John S. Blankenship.
