She was born as Jantje de Haas in June 1898 in Oldehove in the northwestern part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen, daughter of Hein de Haas (25 y, milk transporter, melkrijder) and Ybeltje Lubberts. Ybeltje died on 29 March 1901 in Enumatil, mun. Leek, Groningen, at the age of 27 years and Hein de Haas died on 26 May 1902 in the city of Groningen at the age of 29 years.

Jantje was then adopted by her aunt Janke de Haas and her husband Hotze Scheeringa, who lived since 1895 in Pieterzijl, municipality Grijpskerk, also in the northwestern part of province Groningen. From there they immigrated to the US in 1905. They arrived in New York City on 29 May 1905, just nine days before Jantje's seventh birthday. Their destination was Hospers, in northwest Iowa where Hotze's brother Johannes and his family, including six children, were living. Soon Hotze and Jennie left Iowa and settled in Little Holland, Gallatin County, in the southwestern part of Montana. Hotze died there about 1906.

In March 1909 Jennie's adoption mother and aunt Jennie De Haas remarried in Manhattan, Gallatin County, to James Veltkamp.

In the beginning of 1920 Jennie (21 y) lived with her adoption parents Jennie [de Haas] (49 y) and James Veltkamp (62 y), her grandmother Antje DeHaas (83 y) and James his granddaughter Grace Postema (12 y) in Manhattan, Gallatin County, Montana. Her second adoption father James Veltkamp died there in January 1920 at the age of 62 years.

On 11 Feb 1920 Jennie Veltkamp, [adopted] daughter of James Veltkamp and Jennie Dehaas, married at the age of 21 years in Manhattan, Gallatin County, Montana to the two years older Andrew Kuipers, born in Patterson, New Yersey, son of John Kuipers and Bessie Burris.

In 1940 Jennie Cooper (40 y) lived in a rented house in Hot Springs Township, Madison County, in the southwestern part of Montana, with her husband Andrew Cooper (43 y, born in New Jersey, bus driver in Yellowstone Park) and their children John (19 y, born in Montana, assistant agent at the Park Station), Andrew (17 y, born in Montana) and Juanita (0 y, born in Montana). In 1935 they lived in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.

Jennie died in 1989 in Madison County, Montana at the age of 90 years, since 1985 widow of Andrew Cooper.
