From there they immigrated to the US in 1905. They arrived in New York City on 29 May 1905, just nine days before Jantje's seventh birthday. Their destination was Hospers, in northwest Iowa where Hotze's brother Johannes and his family, including six children, were living. Soon Hotze and Jennie left Iowa and settled in Little Holland, Gallatin County, in the southwestern part of Montana. Hotze died there about 1906.
