ELLENDALE - Ida Mae Abbott, age 90, of Ellendale, passed away, Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, in her home. Ida was born in Georgetown, daughter of the late John E. and Lillie M. Short. She drove a school bus route for Ellendale School and was cafeteria manager and dietician, from 1960 - 1979. She also was cafeteria manager and dietician with the Stevenson House, in Milford. Ida was a member of Ellendale U.M. Church, an original member of the Ellendale Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, member of the Eastern Star and served as the first president of the VFW, Apple Tucker Post #9244, in Ellendale. In addition to her parents, Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. Abbott, Jr., in 1993; two brothers, Clarence and Carlton Short; and a sister, Nellie Walls. She is survived by two children, James E. Abbott, Sr., and wife Diana and Gloria J. Webb and husband Donald, all of Ellendale; five grandchildren, James E. Abbott, Jr., Clark A. Abbott and wife Jacqueline, Sheila Donovan and husband Wayne, Linda Abbott and Crystal McGee; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lee Short, Hot Springs, S.D.; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at Ellendale U.M. Church, 601 Main St., Ellendale. Friends may call Saturday evening 6 to 8 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton. Burial will be in Ellendale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
