John Miles was the son of George Henry Miles and Edith Laura Miles nee Bickle, and the step son of William Williams Squires. His birth was registered in the March quarter of 1897 in Bodmin. Prior to the Great War John was employed in the china clay industry. He served his country as Private 1245 in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry and was laid to rest at Bodmin Cemetery. John was entitled to be awarded the British WW1 medals and his next of kin would have been sent the Memorial Death Plaque of WW1.
