Phyllis E. Novak, born Feb. 8, 1926, to Harry and Clara Lutz of Portland, Ore., passed away Sept. 27, 2002. Youngest of 14 children. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, William J. Novak; seven sisters and four brothers. Survived by children, Sandra (Jerry) Burrer, Douglas (Linda) Novak, Kavon (George) Rueter; grandchildren, Michael (Pamela) Bates, Michelle (Jeff) Stout, Keith Novak, Mark Novak, Nick Rueter and Scott Rueter, Phoebe (Joe) Morton, Annette Novak; great-grandchildren, AnnaLee Dowd, Joey Morton, Colton (Novak) McNabb, William J. Novak II, Timothy Bates, Hunter Stout and special friend/daughter Sharon Unger. Phyllis and family give a loving thanks to Helen and Dick Perse, who have been unfailing friends and neighbors for more than 37 years. Also survived by sisters, Clara (Walter) Sperl, Kathryn DeSemple; daughter-in-law, Alice (Novak) Kratzer; brother-in-law, Edward (Emma) Novak; sister-in-law, Gladys (Andy) Valent; and numerous nephews and nieces. Phyllis wanted to say good-bye to all of those she has known during her 56 years in Pueblo, and she also wished to express her deepest love and appreciation to Sandy and Jerry Burrer for taking her into their home and caring for her 24 hours a day for the last months of her life. The family would like to thank all of her friends, doctors and nurses who have given support, comfort, love and friendship to Phyllis, including Dr. Bowman and Sandy Nebil. The care received from Kay Freeman, Kim, Karla and all the many other staff members of Sangre De Cristo Hospice made an invaluable difference during this most difficult time. Visitation, 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral service 10 a.m. Tuesday, T.G. McCarthy Rose Chapel with interment to follow, Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Sangre de Cristo Hospice in Phyllis' name.

Phyllis is the granddaughter of Joseph Fulton Custer and Ida May (Donaldson) Custer.
