GALENA, Kan. — Mrs. Nellie Frances Coles, 91, Fort Smith, Ark., former Galena resident, died at 10:02 a.m. Sunday at a Tulsa, Okla, hospital, after a short illness.
Mrs. Coles was born Feb. 6, 1883, at Galena, Kan. She married Robert A. Coles Nov. 14, 1906, at Galena. He died in 1934. Mrs. Coles lived here most of her life, moving to Fort Smith in 1965. She was a member of the Methodist Church here and the Order of Eastern Star, Amy Chapter No. 165. She was also a member of PEO Sisterhood and the Galena Woman's Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Robert Krieckhaus, Fort Smith; a grandson and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Galena Methodist Church. The Rev. Kenneth Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Charles Rago, Harry Robeson, Henry Bender, James Ryan, Bill Roe and Robert Turner.

Robert Albert Coles Dies in
Freeman Hospital After
3-Year Illness.
Galena, Kan., Sept. 24.—Robert Albert Coles, 53 years old, cashier of the Galena National bank sixteen years, died at 4 o'clock this morning in Freeman hospital in Joplin following a three years' illness from a complication of diseases.
Although Mr. Coles had been ill three years, he had been confined to his bed only at intervals. His condition became worse Saturday night and he was removed to the hospital in Joplin yesterday afternoon in an ambulance.
Born in Oklahoma, then known as Indian Territory, Mr. Coles cam to Galena with his parents when fifteen years old and had reside here since.
Bank Liquidated This Month.
He began work at the Galena National bank in 1905. In 1909 he was elected assistant cashier and served in this office until 1913, when he was elected cashier, which position he held a little more than a year.
He then served as assistant cashier from 1914 to 1919, when he was elected cashier and had served as cashier until September 10 this year, when the bank directors voted to liquidate and go out of business. Mr. Coles had been unable to be at the bank only, at intervals during the last two years.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge, the Elks and the Shrine.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Nell Coles; one daughter, Miss Frances Coles, at home; one brother, C. B. Coles, 915 Main street, Galena, and one sister, Mrs. George Breckenridge of St. Louis.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Dies in Hospital—In Ill Health
Three Years.
Galena, Kan., Sept. 24.—Funeral services for Robert Albert Coles, 54 years old, cashier of the Galena National bank, who died at 4 o'clock this morning in Freeman hospital at Joplin, will be held at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church. The Rev. R. L. Kuhns, pastor, will officiate. Other arrangements are incomplete.
The body will lie in state at the home from 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon until the hour of the funeral. The casket will not be opened at the church.
Ill Three Years.
Mr. Coles had been in ill health from a complication of diseases three years. He was able to be at the bank only at intervals during the last two years. He was not bedfast and had been in Joplin Saturday afternoon and had visited with friends In Galena later. His condition took a turn for the worse Saturday night and pneumonia developed Sunday. He was removed to the hospital in Joplin yesterday afternoon in an ambulance.

In 1919, Coles was elected cashier of the institution and had served in that capacity until September 10 this year, when the bank directors voted to liquidate the bank.
Mr. Coles was married to Miss Nell Bender here in 1909. He was a member of the Masonic lodge, the Elks, the Shrine, the Modern Woodmen, Rebekah lodge, Odd Fellows and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Nell Coles; one daughter, Miss Frances Coles, at home; one brother, C. B. Coles, 915 Main street, Galena, and one sister, Mrs. George Breckenridge of St. Louis.
