Irvin Martin Essinger died at McCall, Idaho, last Thursday at the age of 84 years. He was a former Superior resident.
The funeral will be today (Thursday) from the Church of The Plains, Edgar, with the Rev. Frank Schroeder and the Rev. Stuart Barnes Jamieson officiating. Interment will be in the Edgar Cemetery. Urbaur-Williams Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
The son of Martin and Elizabeth Helwig Essinger, he was born at Edgar Sept. 4, 1905.
He received his education in the Centennial Rural School and in Edgar High School, graduating with the class of 1925.
Nov. 23, 1927, he was united in marriage to Thelma Faye Cook at McCook. To this union two sons, Irvin Keith and Donald Lee, and a daughter, Lola Myreta, were born. They made their home in Edgar where he operated a tank wagon service and later drove for the Yellow Diamond Bus Line. In 1948, they moved to Superior where he was employed in the Superior Public School system.
Following the death of his wife, he moved to Hastings where he was employed at Jahnke's until his retirement in 1984. In May, 1989, he left Hastings to make his home with his son, Donald, at New Meadows, Idaho.
He received his 50-year membership pin in the United Methodist Church several years ago. For many years, he served as Sunday school teacher and gave freely of his musical talent, singing in the choirs and quartets for many occasions.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma; on son, Keith; his parents, Martin and Elizabeth Essinger; a brother, Lloyd; and a sister, Velma.
His survivors include his son, Donald, New Meadows, Idao; daughter, Mrs. Jerry Lawlor (Myreta), Centerville, Va.; grandchildren, Raymond Lee Essinger of San Lorenzo, Calif., Sandra Hileman of Wellsboro, Pa., Mike Essinger of Everett, Wash., Jim Essinger of Fruitland, Idaho, Helen Morse of Eugene, Ore., and Brian Lawlor, Diane Tomajzyk, Shelia Bryant, Barry Lawlor and Derek Lawlor, all of Centerville, Va.; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Arline Shanks, Wahoo; and many other relatives.
