Mrs. Delores "Dee" June Murray, 78, of Michigan City, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at 7:27 p.m. at Saint Anthony Memorial Hospital, Michigan City, following a 12-year battle with cancer.

She was born Jan. 29, 1928, in Indianapolis to Neil Gordon and Lola (Dyke) Kessler.

Mrs. Murray retired from General Telephone Co. in 1992. She had also worked as a greeter at Meijer, where she was known as the "Meijer lady" with the little red scooter. She was a Mishawaka High School graduate and a member of Countryside Christian Church. She enjoyed bowling, knitting, crocheting and cooking, and making life happier and easier for all. She and her husband were known as the "food fairies" at Memorial Hospital and later Saint Anthony Memorial, bringing food to the nursing staff. She was a very loving and caring person who made friends with everyone.

On Nov. 19, 1947, in Georgia, she married Robert "Bob" Charles Murray, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Cynthia (Jon) Lapinski and Kathryn (John) Lisenko, both of Michigan City; two sons, Edward (Karen) and Randy (Diane), both of Michigan City; 11 grandchildren, Peter, Neil, Richard II and Rachel Murray, Heather McElyea, Pamela Higgins, Lori Gifford, Jason, Matthew and Scott Lisenko, and Christopher Lapinski; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two sons, James Richard and Richard Allen I; one granddaughter, Patience Lapinski; and one great-granddaughter.

The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, with Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City.
