Tammy Peavy Newton, 48, Lebanon, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. Born in Lebanon June 7, 1962, Newton was an elementary school teacher at West Marion Elementary, Loretto, and a member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Mark Newton, formerly of Bardstown; a daughter, Ann-Rachelle Newton, Lebanon; a son, Adrian Tanner Newton, Lebanon; her parents, Henry "Sonny" and Rachel Minor Peavy Jr.; a brother, Terry Peavy of Bardstown; paternal grandmother, Gladys Peavy, Lebanon. The funeral was 1 p.m. Monday, at the Lebanon United Methodist Church with burial in Ryder Cemetery, Lebanon. The Rev. Darren Gillespie officiated.
Pallbearers were Michael Lambe, Benji Mattingly, Monty Parman, Kevin Durham, Will Smith and Chuck Spalding. The staff of West Marion Elementary School was honorary pallbearers. Bosley Funeral Home, Lebanon, was in charge of arrangements.

Tammy Newton, 48, Lebanon, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2010, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. Born in Lebanon June 7, 1962, Newton was a devoted member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, served as a member of the Staff Parish Relation Committee and a greeter for late service. She fought a long and hard battle with cancer for eight years and was an inspiration to many who had cancer. She was employed by the Marion County Board of Education for 25 years and a teacher at West Marion Elementary School in Loretto. She loved all of her students very much and always inspired them and her colleagues to strive for their best. She touched so many lives not only during her battle with cancer but also during her years as a teacher. She received the first Fred Award three years ago for her extraordinary passion in and out of the classroom and how that passion inspired not only her students but, her colleagues and community. She was a graduate from Marion County High School and received her associate's degree from St. Catherine College and her bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky University. She also received her master's degree from Western Kentucky University. She was the beloved wife of Mark Newton, devoted mother of Ann-Rachelle Newton and Adrian Tanner Newton; daughter of Rachel & Sonny Peavy and sister of Terry Peavy (Carol); her paternal grandmother is Gladys Peavy. She was preceded by her maternal grandparents, Fanny & Elmer Minor, and paternal grandfather Henry Peavy. The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, September 27, at the Lebanon United Methodist Church. Rev. Darren Gillespie officiated. Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society and/or Lebanon United Methodist Church.
