Born to William Rutledge Caldwell, Sr. (c.1810-1889) of Tennessee & Cynthia Eliza Davidson Dooley Caldwell (?-c. 1862), who married July 4, 1833, in Maury County, TN. Cynthia had previously been married to Paris Dooley (1800-1830; Memorial# 13219844) on August 12, 1822, in Maury County, TN.

Cynthia died about 1862 and is buried in Black Jack Cemetery, Panola County, MS. This grave appears to be lost.

After Cynthia died, William married Frances Blann (1826-c. 1875) and had 3 children with her. William was buried in Concord Cemetery, also in Panola County, but his grave has been lost.

Ephraim married Maria Alice Todd (1854-1921) on Nov. 19, 1873, in Arkansas.

Nine children:
• William Rutledge Caldwell, Jr. (1876-1958)
• Lena Bert Caldwell James Marlar (1878-1916)
• Samuel Woodard Caldwell (1881-1963)
• Sidney Carlton Caldwell (1883-1959)

Note: Ephraim's father, William Rutledge Caldwell, Sr. (c. 1810-1889), was the son of John Caldwell (d. before 1814) and Martha C. Rutledge Caldwell (1794-1869). After John Caldwell died, Martha married Esom Ballinger Dooley (1793-1871) on March 21, 1814, in Maury County, TN, and is buried with him at Memorial# 25142907 as Martha C. Dooley.
