Another Pioneer Woman Called by Her Maker
Margaretha Wilhelmina Bassman was born near Jefferson City, Mo. Oct. 12, 1862 and died Saturday morning, April 16. Her death came very suddenly following a paralytic stroke at 10:30 Friday evening, two months after the death of her husband. She was united in marriage to Wm. Sommerer on Jan. 31st, 1882. Following their wedding they came to Nebraska, locating 9 miles southwest of Oakland, in Dodge County. Here they resided until 1901 when they removed to the farm in Burt County which was their home until Mr. Sommerer's failing health necessitated their leaving the farm, moving to Uehling.
To Mr. and Mrs. Sommerer were born eight children, six of whom remain to mourn a mother's loss. They are Aurelia, Mrs. J. D. Lueers, of Marysville, Kans.; Mathias F., Edna, Mrs. Ira Richards, of Lyons, Nebr., Carmen, Mrs. Harvey Realph; Willimina, Mrs. Earl Jones,and William A., of Uehling, besides whom there are 13 grandchildren and five brothers.
Services were held at the home Monday, at 1:00 p.m., conducted by Pastor C. L. Hammond of Uehling, the quartet of the Congregational Church singing the old comforting hymns of our Christian faith. A large concourse of friends and neighbors assembled to render their tribute of respect and of sympathy for the family.
Mrs. Sommerer was broad of mind and sympathetic by nature, a devoted wife and mother, a true and consistent friend.
Interment was made in the cemetery at Oakland beside her husband. Uehling, Messenger.hhw
