Emmett Phillip Pursley, 98, Washington, died Friday, April 9, 2010, in Washington.

Mr. Pursley was born May 18, 1911, in Catawissa, the son of Valley C. Pursley and wife Sarah A., nee Rucker.

He was united in marriage Dec. 24, 1934, to Ruby Oneita Dulworth, known to most as Oneita, and they were blessed to have 72 years together.

Mr. Pursley is survived by many nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; friends and his many friends at The Homestead at Hickory View in Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Valley and Sarah Pursley; his wife, Oneita Pursley; one brother, Clarence Pursley; and two sisters, Zella Martin and Ruth Hendricks.

Mr. Pursley was a Christian and past member of the Community Church, St. Clair. He was a self-employed cement contractor by trade and had lived in Washington for many years.

He was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 1559, Washington. He enjoyed many hobbies and interests during his life and enjoyed caring for his home and yard.

Mr. Pursley was a Cardinals baseball fan and rarely missed watching a game. He treasured the time he shared with his family and especially enjoyed the friendships created in the past four years at The Homestead at Hickory View.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 13, at Midlawn Memorial Gardens, Union.

Memorials to the Elks Lodge 1559, Washington, are preferred.
The family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.
