Rites Monday A.M. At Cowden Chapel For David S. Bales

Cowden, July 24.--Services for D.S. Bales, pioneer in the Cowden community, were at 11 a.m. Monday in Sappington chapel with Rev. Van Turman and Rev. Harry Kerns of Mountain View officiating. Burial was in the Sappington cemetery.
Mr. Bales died at 9:40 a.m. Sunday at his home south of Cowden after a lingering illness. two weeks ago he suffered a stroke and continued to grow weaker until his death.
David Samuel Bales was born July 20, 1874, in Greenville, Tenn., He was married to Rachel E. Simpson in Greenville June 3, 1894. He came to Oklahoma with his family in November, 1907, and located on the farm where they now live.
He was converted and joined the Presbyterian church in 1918. Mrs. Bales died May 28, 1919.
He was married to Maggie May Melker Jan. 4, 1923, at Bethany.
Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Maggie Bales; five sons, Odel and William Guy, Bethany; Evert, Dimmett, Texas; Elvern, Cloud Chief, and Coit at home, and four daughters, Mrs. Sarah Myers, South Gate, Calif.; Mrs. Selma Scott, Cloud Chief; Mrs. Eunice McCullough, Cordell, and Mrs. Opal Mays, Huntington Park, Calif. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
