Alfred lived at Makomako and worked on his father's farm when he was young, he attended the local school and Methodist church. He was a member of the Pahiatua rifles. Alfred was in the NZRB in WW1 and was in France, Belgium and Germany. He came home from war and married Mardie, they moved to Auckland where he worked on the railways. Alfred and Mardie had a daughter. Alfred was accidently killed while shunting a train in the Auckland goods yard.
