CLARENCE VETTING

Clarence W. Vetting, 87, of 1026 South Alverno Rd., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly
Sunday evening Dec. 8, 1991. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday
at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newtonburg. Rev. Timothy Ehlers will
officiate and burial in the church cemetery.
He was born on July 21, 1904 in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids, son of the late
Emil and Mathilda Larson Vetting. He was educated at Shady Side School and St.
John Lutheran School, Newtonburg. He was married to Freida E. Schramm June 14,
1932 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church by Rev. Ed Kionka. The couple
celebrated over 59 years of marriage together. During World War II he was
employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company until 1948 when they took over the
William Schramm family farm. He retired in 1979. He was a lifelong member of St.
John Evangelical Lutheran Church where he had held the office of secretary and
treasurer. He was a former member of the school board of St. John Lutheran
School.
Survivors include his wife, Freida; a daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Don
Umnus of Manitowoc; a sister, Mrs. Helen Pollen of Manitowoc; a sister-in-law,
Mrs. Laurine Schramm of Manitowoc; four grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other
relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by five brothers,
Eugene, Irvin, Herbert, Gerhardt and Arnold Vetting; two sisters, Olga Kieselhorst
and Viola Schroeder.
Friends may call at Reinbold Pfeffer Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home from 5 pm
until 8 pm on Tuesday and at the church on Wednesday from noon until the time
of service. Memorials may be directed to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church
or Manitowoc Lutheran High School.
