Effie Allen was born October 6, 1923 and departed this life Tuesday, June 21, 2011 reaching the age of 87. She was the daughter of the late Jonathan and Charity (Hughes) Ferrell.
She was united in marriage to Richard Allen and to this union 9 children were born.
She is survived by: 7 children, Betty (Cecil) Lowe, Joyce Ann (Johnny) Garner, Gladys Faye McGuire (Lloyd Abbott), Kathy (Tommy) Russell, Rick (Mary) Allen, Debbie (Bill) Atkinson, Patricia Burnett (Jeff Alley); 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by: 2 sisters, Pearl Brown and Dorothy Ferrell; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.
In addition to her parents, Jonathan and Charity Ferrell, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Richard Allen; 2 daughters, Wanda Crabtree and Carolyn Sue Sharp; 1 grandson, Danny Joe Crabtree; 1 great granddaughter, Brandy Lowe; 2 sisters, Florence Grant and Hulda Shelton; and 1 son-in-law, Lester Burnett.
Effie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and Christian. She gave her life to the Lord at an early age. She loved spending time reading her Bible (which she did often), and enjoying her family. She had many friends and neighbors whom she loved dearly that will miss her tremendously.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 23, 2011 from 5 – 9 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 24, 2011 at 1 pm at the Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home with Bro. Dewey Burks officiating. Burial will be in Elk Spring Cemetery.
