After suffering from pneumonia less than a week, Luther Hawk, a prominent and well known citizen of Westervelt, died at his home in that village at six o'clock Monday evening. He was stricken with pneumonia Friday of last week, the disease developing quickly and his condition seemed critical from the beginning of his illness. Mr. Hawk was born in Richland township on November 20, 1858. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Hawk. On September 4, 1889, he was united in marriage to Miss Ella Hendricks. His wife died a few years after her marriage. On August 6, 1905, Mr. Hawk was married to Miss Clara Mautz, eldest daughter of Jacob Mautz of Rural township. Besides his wife and father, he is survived by two sisters and two brothers. The sisters are Mrs. Charles Pfeiffer and Mrs. John Kircher of Shelbyville. The brothers are Hardin Hawk of Westervelt and Wallace Hawk of Shelbyville. He was a member of the Baptist church of this city, having been a devoted member of this church many years. He was an honest, conscientious Christian gentleman, a man whose word was good as his bond. In politics he was a loyal and faithful worker for the democratic party, one on whom the party managers could always depend for support and help. He will be greatly missed in church, business and political circles. A short religious service was held in the family home at Westervelt this morning, before leaving there for Shelbyville, where a full religious service was held in his memory at the Baptist church at 11 o'clock, Rev. Burdon, pastor of that church, officiating. Following the service burial was made in Glenwood cemetery. 18 Dec 1919, Shelbyville Democrat
