Dr. Clarence Paul Hinchman

Clarence Hinchman was a son of Ulysses Grant Hinchman and Eva M. Huston Hinchman. His siblings were Allen Berle Hinchman and Mary Athalia Hinchman. On April 17, 1913 Clarence married Nellie Lee Shortridge, daughter of Santford Shortridge and Ida E. Dora Shortridge.

"... Dr. Clarence Paul Hinchman, now a practicing physician at Geneva, Indiana, was graduated from the Connersville high school in 1910, having had his earlier schooling in the Fairview schools. In the fall of that year he entered Indiana University, from which he received the degree of Bachelor of Science in 1914, and from the School of Medicine, of which institution he was graduated in 1916, following which he was given a year of hospital work as an intern in the City Hospital at Indianapolis. He then passed the examination of the state board of medical examiners and was licensed to practice medicine, having passed with a grade of nine hundred and forty-nine points out of a possible one thousand points, the highest record made for many years. Doctor Hinchman is a member of the Delta Upsilon and Phi Chi fraternities, and takes a warm interest in the affairs of these organizations. On April 17, 1913, he married Nellie Lee Shortridge, daughter of Sanford and Ida (Dora) Shortridge, and to this union twin sons were born, one of whom died in infancy, the surviving child being Wayne Deryl. ...". Rites were held today at Geneva, Ind., for Dr. Clarence Hinchman, 68, a native of Fairview Township, who died late Friday night in Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie. His parents were the late U. G. and Eva Huston Hinchman. Dr. Hinchman, a Connersville High School graduate, was graduated from the Indiana Medical School in 1915. He was a member of the American and Indiana Medical Association, the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shrine. He leaves his wife, formerly Nellie Shortridge; two sons, Dr. Jean Hinchman of Parker, Ind., and Wayne of Winchester; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Keith Kehl of Fairview Township. Rites Today At Geneva For Dr. C.P. Hinchman

Prominent Geneva Physician, 68, Dies Late Friday

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today in the Hardy and Hardy Funeral Home in Geneva for Dr. C.P. Hinchman, 68, a physician in that town for 44 years. Dr. Hinchman died at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, where he had been a patient since March 20.

Rev. Jack Wyatt, pastor of the Geneva Methodist Church, officiated at the funeral, assisted by the Rev. Paul Temple, pastor of the Geneva E.U.B. Church. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery, Geneva.

Dr. Hinchman, a highly respected physician and active in many community events in Geneva, became ill early in March on a vacation trip to Florida. On his return trip he stopped off at the Muncie Hospital, was hospitalized immediately and had been a patient there since. Surgery was performed twice but he grew progressively worse and for several days before his death, had been in critical condition. Specialists from several places were called in for consultation but his life could not be saved.

Dr. Hinchman was born July 14, 1891 in Fayette County and was graduated from Indiana Medical School in 1915, moving to Adams County to practice in 1916.

An active physician and surgeon, he was honored about a year go by the doctors of the county as the oldest practicing physician in the county.

Surviving is the widow, Nellie; two sons, Wayne Hinchman, Winchester, and Dr. Gene Hinchman, Parker, and six grandchildren.

He was a member of the American Medical Association, Indiana Medical Associating, Geneva Masonic Lodge, and Scottish Rite and Shrine in Fort Wayne.

Dr. Hinchman was president of the medical staff of the Adams County Memorial Hospital.
