In June 1880 Sophia lived, with her husband and daughters in Clark's Fork, Cooper County, Missouri. Both of her sons lived in Colorado in 1880. Her husband and daughter's also moved to Colorado, probably after her death. Her husband died in Colorado in 1883. The family owned a farm in Missouri which they leased out after they moved to Colorado. The family sold it in about 1905. That year Sophia's oldest son, Chris, returned to Missouri to finalize the sale of the farm.
It's my theory that he had his mother's gravestone made in 1905 and couldn't recall the correct death year. He was not living in Missouri when she died. It is also possible that Sophia's husband had the stone made just prior to their move to Colorado and never saw the finished product.
This second possibility fits the use of the double s in the surname on her gravestone. The family surname was Americanized to Risling from the German, Rissling, but the double s was still used for official correspondence to Germany. Sophia's husband received some sort of official payments from Germany.
