Mary Ann Caroline Reckner, daughter of the late William Kruger and his wife Henrietta, nee Lebow, Kruger, was born on September 16, 1866 near Riceville. She was baptized in the name of the Triune God in her infancy and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 26, 1880, and was a member of the local St. Peter's Lutheran Church ever since its existence.
On May 5, 1892 she was married to Ephraim Reckner, who preceded her in death on April 5, 1939. This union was blessed with ten children, four of which preceded her in death: Louise, Raymond, Ephriam amd Violet.
Those mourning her departure are Mrs. Alvina Bohneman, Waterloo; Henry Reckner, Osage; Mrs. Lillian Hobert, Rockford, Richard Reckner, Riceville; Mrs. Mary Carpender, Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Alfred Reckner, Elma, Iowa.
The first few years of her married life she lived with her husband on a farm now occupied by her son Richard, southeast of Riceville. They then moved to a farm six miles northwest of Elma where she spent the remainder of her life, with the exception of the past year, when, because of her infirmities of her age, she found the necessary care in a nursing home in Cresco. There she passed away early last Monday morning at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 3 days.
Besides the children mentioned above, she is being survived by 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Her departure is mourned also by four brothers: Christian Kruger of Watertown, Wisconsin; Lewis Kruger of Long Beach, Calif.; Benjamin Kruger of Charles City; and Julius Kruger of Riceville; and one sister, Mrs. Eliza Worple of Elma.
