He also served as a Corporal in Company B, Mississippi Marine Brigade. He was discharged with an unspecified disability. Married Elizabeth Shuey 21 Jul 1864, and had a son named Carver C. Sanders. They were divorced 26 Dec 1875. Married Emily Jane Clement Baker 28 May 1878. They were the parents of Adelaide Dell, Nancy Belle, Charles Edward, and Walter Forest Sanders. John died 3 Apr 1918, and was buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery on 5 Apr 1918.
