AMERICA M. (BARRETT) HARGETT

America M. Hargett, nee Barrett, was born June 4, 1840, married Wm. L. Hargett October 27, 1864, and died November 9, 1913.

Sister Hargett was a widow for twenty years, and had the responsibility of rearing a large family, but with all of her responsibilities she trusted her Lord and was faithful to her responsibilities. She has three children who have departed this life and eight who still remain with us to honor her memory: Joe Hargett, Mrs. Amy Todd, W. Ed Hargett, A. W. Hargett, Mrs Corrie Hill, A. M. Hargett, Mrs. Lourie Arnold of Franklin county, and Mrs. Lillie Stansell of Cullman, Ala.. She leaves quite a number of grandchildren and more than twenty great grandchildren. Her people are remarkable for their longevity, her mother, Mrs. Jennette Barrett, is still living and is very well, notwithstanding she is more than 93 years old.

Mrs. Hargett with her husband was a member of the Baptist church, but about 19 years ago she joined the Methodist church with her children, who are all Methodist. Mrs. Hargett was faithful to her church, devoted to her children, and was a close reader of her bible. She was truly ready to go and often remarked during her sickness that she did not dread death, but thought only of the welfare of her loved ones.

We pray the blessing of our heavenly Father upon her posterity-and may He sustain them and keep them in every bereavement and trouble, and may all of her posterity honor God and give their lives to build up the blessed kingdom of Jesus Christ. May each one live up to the light he has that the way may grow brighter and brighter to the perfect day.
