Martin L. Phillips, 85, Penn Township, died Aug. 3 at 10 p.m. in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient for two days. His wife, Esther R. (Riegel) Phillips, died May 6, 2000. Born in Centre Township, he was a son of the late James and Annie (Stein) Phillips. Phillips had been employed for many years as a machinist by Arrow International, Wyomissing, until his retirement. He was a member of Salem (Belleman's) Church, Centre Township, where he was a past councilman. Phillips was past president of Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery, Centre Township. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Phillips is survived by a daughter, Penn Township. Other survivors include a brother, Centre Township; and two sisters. There are also two grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Salem (Belleman's) Church. Burial will be in Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery. Leibensperger Funeral Homes Inc., Centerport, is in charge of arrangements.
