FIRE IN MONT ALTO CLAIMS SECOND VICTIM
The Oct. 8 fire of a Park St. home claimed its second victim when Gregory A. Shaffer, 25, died Wednesday evening at a Pittsburgh hospital. His three-year-old daughter,Drey Lynn, died of asphyxiation in the blaze. His wife Ruth, and 18 month old daughter, Melissa, escaped uninjured. Shaffer, with burns over 75 per cent of his body, was transferred from the Waynesboro Hospital to the burn treatment unit of Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh. He died at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday. His wife and younger daughter were sleeping in a second floor bedroom when the fire broke out shortly after 5 a.m. on Oct. 6. The two victims were downstairs. Drey was found on a couch in a room adjacent to where the fire had started. The father was found not far from the couch, which the state fire marshall theorized, was set afire from a smoldering cigarette. Shaffer was an employe of Middlekauff Motors, Hagerstown, Md. at the time of his death. Besides his widow and one daughter, he is survived by his mother, Shirley W. Aughinbaugh of Waynesboro; his father, Mearle J. Shaffer of Hagerstown; five brothers, Mearle J. Shaffer, Jearry L. Shaffer, Sholton A. Shaffer, Arnold C. Shaffer and John E. Shaffer, all of Waynesboro; a half-sister, Miss Heidi J. Aughinbaugh of Waynesboro, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Bertha Wagaman of Waynesboro.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Grove Funeral Home in Waynesboro with tbe Rev. Arnold Wagaman officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be no viewing.
