Bernice Valeria Kocsis, 91, of West Point, died September 15, 2010 at her St. Joseph's Retirement Community home.

Funeral Mass will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Retirement Community Chapel with Monsignor Melvin Wiese as celebrant. Graveside Services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Cemetery in Bellevue with Reverend Frank Partusch officiating. Visitation will be noon until 6:00 p.m. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Retirement Community Foundation.

Bernice was born November 3, 1918, on a farm near Cornlea, Nebraska to Guido and Katherine Bender Gilsdorf. At the age of 10, Bernice began her schooling at the Nebraska School for the deaf in Omaha, continuing thru her high school years. Bernice lived with her parents in Omaha and worked at a downtown laundry. In October of 1955, Bernice married Steve Kocsis at St. Adalbert's Catholic Church. The couple lived in south Omaha. They enjoyed traveling the United States by bus, gardening and home movies. Bernice was active with the Omaha deaf Community. Bernice moved to West Point in 2005.

She was a former member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Omaha, and was registered at St. Boniface Catholic Church, rural West Point.

Survivors include a brother Eugene of California, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband in August 2004, sisters Rose Ann Bucknell and Marie Mueller and her parents.
