American Folk Figure, Murder Victiim. She was the alleged viction of Tom Dula, made famous in the folk ballad, "Hang down your head Tom Dula/hang down your head and cry/killed poor Laura Foster/now you're going to die." Laura Foster was supposedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend Tom Dula in 1866, but rumor has it she may have actually been killed by her own sister, Ann, who was having an affair with Tom. The motive being jealousy. Tom never confessed, but hanged for the killing all the same. She is buried about five miles away from him.
She was the daughter of Wilson Foster & Martha Patsy Bowman of Wilks Co NC.
