She married Lawrence L. Altenbach on July 4, 1940, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on September 7, 1992. Edith was employed at Western Publishing for over 25 years, retiring in 1977.
Edith and Lawrence spent 24 years wintering in Dade City, Fla. She was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed playing Sheepshead. Most importantly, she enjoyed being with her family.
Edith is survived by her children, Pete (Susan) Altenbach, Kurt (Arllys) Altenbach, Edith (Lloyd) Larson, and Laurel (Richard Stich) Nearing; grandchildren, Jeff (Crystal) Altenbach, Jenny (Mike) Maxwell, Joseph (Jenny) Altenbach, Carla (Jeff) Cobb, Heidi (Mark) Myszkewicz, Jodi (Ron Kies) Nearing, Jessie (Brian) Lois, Kristine (Steven) Schwaab, Glenn Larson, David Larson, Veronica (Todd) Maki, and Heather Altenbach; great-grandchildren, Scott, Seth, and Jacob Malloy, Cecilia and Madison Altenbach, Jamie, Brady, and Taylor Maxwell, Luke and Logan Altenbach, Kayla and Matthew Cobb, Brandon and Andrew Lois, Katie and Abbey Schwaab, Anthony Altenbach, Dominic Gilboy, Ruben, and Faith Leal, and Brittney and Corey Maki; brother, Charles Stehlik; sister, Dorothy Dolezal; and sister-in-law, Nancy Stehlik. Edith is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Edith will be held at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Avenue, on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Edward Kersten, OSA. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
