Robert Peter Benstein, formerly of Elgin and St. Charles, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Glen Ellyn. He was born Dec. 25, 1919, in Chicago, the son of the late William and Florence Phelps Benstein. Robert was an Army veteran, serving in World War II. He formerly owned Elgin Quality Laundry in Elgin and Easy Wash Laundry and Cleaners in Geneva for many years. After his retirement, he and his wife, Charlene, moved to Bradenton, Fla., in 1978, returning to St. Charles in 1997. Mr. Benstein is survived by three children, Sue (Thomas) Meyer of Bradenton, Fla., Craig (Mary Jo) of Glen Ellyn and Lynn (Michael) Renker of Aurora, Colo.; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Mae (Kelley) Benstein; an infant son, Paul Benstein; his sister, Florence Stegall; and three brothers,William, James, and George. The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main StEntombment will be in River Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Batavia.
