Suggested corrections sent via SAC (the EDIT button on this memorial) by Findagrave member #47054737 on 8 Jul 2021:
- A middle name or initial is currently not shown, the findagrave member is suggesting a middle name of William. This data is not supported by any information that is held or known to the maintainer of this memorial. I am declining to change his middle name because of this.
- A nickname is currently not shown, the findagrave member is suggesting the nickname 'Chin'. I am accepting this,
HOWEVER, If we are to believe this, then we must also take at face value the placement of John Thomas at Paint Creek, made by an article about his son Benjamin Thomas that is undated and not attributed to a particular newspaper, but was written sometime after the death of Benjamin's second wife Mary (1912). We also need to believe that Benjamin's father named John, is the same man living at Paint Creek where this sentence from page 284 of Frank M. Allen's "History of Fayette Co, Ohio;" & etc (Published 1914 by B.F. Bowen & Co, INC. Indianapolis, IN) applies. The sentence says, "John Thomas settled on the mouth of the east fork of Paint Creek about 1810 and was known all over the county as "Chin" Thomas, on account of the remarkable extension of his Chin" Thin 'evidence'. But this findagraver who maintains this memorial also believes this information is true (despite the fact that no one known to this great grandson of a Thomas has a chin with remarkable extension).
