A native of Mecklenburg County, she was the wife of the late Cleo Mitchell Hughes and the daughter of Oscar Deese and Annie Prue Moss Deese, both deceased. She was a retired employee of P. Lorillard Tobacco Company.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Patricia Hughes Allen of Graham and Mrs. Nancy Marie Hughes Weaver and husband Wesley of Richmond, VA; two sons, Mr. William Carl Hughes and wife Susan of Burlington and Mr. Ken Hughes of Graham; one half-sister, Mrs. Nancy Hudson Foster and husband Omer of Charlotte; two half-brothers, Mr. Joe Hudson and wife Nancy and Mr. Dallas Hudson and wife Kathleen, all of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and four step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Valerie Hughes, three brothers and two sisters.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Rick Chandler and Brother John Norton. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
