Prominent Coushatta Man Dies
COUSHATTA – Clarence E. Edgerton Jr., 76, a member of a pioneer Red River Parish family, died Tuesday following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Carroll, the Rev. Louis Coppage and the Rev. Gray Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Springville Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
He was a native and life-long resident of Coushatta. He was a 50-year member of the Silent Brotherhood Lodge 146 F&AM, and 40 & 8 Club, chairman emeritus of the board of directors of the Bank of Coushatta, charter member of the Coushatta American Legion and Coushatta Lions Club, a retired U.S. Army reserve Colonel, World War I and II. He was active in the insurance, banking and real estate. He was the developer of the Village of Edgefield which is named for him. He was a former mayor and former member of the town council and a member of the Black Lake Commission.
He is survived by his widow; one son, C. E. Edgerton III of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Miss Eunice Edgerton of Coushatta and Mrs. A. V. Rich of Slidell; three sisters, Mrs. H. W. Bethard Jr. of Coushatta, Miss Daisy Bell Edgerton of Tokyo, Japan, Mrs. A. E. VanNess of Lake Charles; two brothers, E. T. Edgerton of Fletcher, N.C., A. Freeman Edgerton of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren.
