Sandra Rose Biggs. Devoted wife, nurturing mother and compassionate grandmother, Sandra "Sandy" Rose Biggs, died on Monday, September 20, 2010 at her home in Placitas, NM at the age of 72 with her devoted husband of 50 years by her side. Born in Grand Junction, CO to Dr. Heman and Elsa Bull, Sandy met her soul mate Silmon Biggs at the early age of five. Sandy and Sil were married in the winter of 1960 and had three children, Lisa, Katrina and James. While Sil focused much of his time on his medical career serving in the Army during the Vietnam War and then later on his private practice in Idaho, Sandy devoted her energy to raising their three children, teaching school and working in partnership with her husband on both his medical practice administration and their business interests. She was instrumental in overseeing the managerial operations of the practice and was instrumental in the building of two medical facilities; an outpatient surgery center and a beautiful medical office plaza. Not only was she a grounding and nurturing force for her husband and children, she was the quintessential adventurer which made Sil's medical assignments in places like Panama exciting learning experiences for everyone. Sandy was truly a renaissance woman. In January 2009, Sandy was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. In keeping with her strong and positive nature, she downplayed the severity of her prognosis and insisted on spending as much time as possible with her family and friends. From a quiet Caribbean getaway to a festive 50th anniversary brunch with her friends and family gathering from across the country at The Tamaya, Sandy continued to relish the pleasures of life and the joy of family. In fact, Sandy was a source of comfort and inspiration to patients at the various cancer care facilities where she valiantly battled her disease. She dearly loved horses and found great pleasure in the daily reports on the wild horses of Placitas provided to her by her friend and long-time family helper, Lina Sosa. Monday evening, as the vibrancy of the final summer sunset gave way to the night, Sandy's spirit passed on to heaven. She is survived by her devoted spouse of 50 years, Dr. Silmon Laird Biggs; her daughters, Lisa Barker and husband, David of Santa Fe, NM, Katrina Peebles and husband, Don of Coral Gables, FL; and son James Biggs and wife, Jacqueline of Los Gatos, CA; grandchildren, Laughlin, Forrest and Clinton Barker, Donahue, III and Chloe Peebles, Finn and Tessa Biggs; sisters and brothers, Dr. Malcolm Bull, Mrs. Kathy Parker, Dr. John Bull and Dr. Cynthia Greer. She is additionally survived by beloved nieces, nephews and other family members. Sandy will be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother, a supportive sister, a caring mother-in-law, a nurturing grandmother and an unwavering friend. Her passion and joy for life are an inspiration to all. Services will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at French - Westside Chapel with Edward Langley officiating. Interment will take place Monday, September 27, 2010, at 3:00 p.m., at Orchard Mesa Cemetery in Grand Junction, CO. Please visit our online guest book for Sandy at RememberTheirStory.com.
